Jakarta - Cockroaches often seen dead animals in order. But not so evidently in the minds of scientists in Oregonn State University (OSU), United States. They admired the ability to run cockroach and planning to implement the robot.
"People can run, but our capabilities are not nothing compared to insects or other animals," said John Schmitt, a professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering who led the OSU project is a robot cockroach.
"Cockroaches were incredible. They can run fast, menelusup, moves easily on rough surfaces and react to problems quickly," added Schmitt as quoted from IndiaTimes, Wednesday (30/12/2009).
If the runner a la cockroach robot is successfully created, Schmitt believes would use all kinds. Robot will perform heavy tasks such as for military operations, law enforcement, or space exploration.
OSU researchers try to identify the mechanical and biological principles of why certain animals can run very well and almost without effort. Through computer models, they create a similar robot concept.
It is expected that one day, cockroach-inspired robot is going to happen to dangerous areas visited. And because it runs so fast, they can quickly escape if they received a threat.
